How It Works

Baron Boutique is an independent tailoring house founded in Kathmandu, Nepal, in 2000. We make bespoke garments, cinematic and screen inspired tailoring, custom outerwear and handcrafted cashmere for men and women. Nothing is held in stock. Every garment is cut by a human tailor after you order it, to your own measurements, and every bespoke order includes a free test garment before your real fabric is touched. We ship worldwide by tracked courier.

This process applies to all bespoke garments: suits, coats, jackets, trousers, dresses, and screen inspired pieces. Every order includes a free test garment before we cut your final fabric.

Enter your measurements

Enter your measurements directly on the order page. Use the comment field for any special tailoring instructions. A measuring guide and a fit guide are provided on the page to help you take your measurements accurately before you order.

A tape held by a second person is more accurate than one held by you.

Pay securely via PayPal

Payment is made in full before production begins. We use PayPal as our payment processor. You can pay with your PayPal account, or directly with a debit or credit card without creating one. Full details are on our Payment Policy page.

We draft your pattern and make your test garment

Our tailors read your measurements and draft a pattern, using tailoring data this house has been building since 2000. A test garment is then made in plain cotton and shipped to you, free of charge. It is yours to keep.

Try it on and send us your photos

Try the test garment on properly, over the shirt or layers you would normally wear under it. Have someone photograph you from the front, back, and both sides. Email the photos to us with any fit feedback or adjustment requests. Our tailors review the images and apply precise corrections to your pattern. This stage is the whole point of the process, so take your time with it, but the sooner you send the photos the sooner your garment is finished.

We make your final garment

Once we have your feedback, your final garment is cut from your chosen fabric using the corrected pattern, then shipped to you. It should fit as intended.

Wear it, and we keep your pattern for future orders

All garments are made with extra seam allowance for exactly this reason. If your final garment needs minor local adjustment, we reimburse reasonable tailoring costs up to a published amount per garment type. We update your pattern with any change, so a future order can often skip the test garment stage entirely. See our alteration and refund policy.

What It Costs and How Long It Takes

Three things decide whether this process suits you: how long you are willing to wait, what shipping adds, and what happens at your border. All three are below rather than buried in a policy page.

The two tailoring stages are about 4 weeks each, so the part that is ours is roughly 8 weeks. The gap between them is yours: the clock stops while we wait for your test garment photos. Most customers land between 8 and 10 weeks from order to final delivery. If you have a fixed date, tell us before you order rather than after.

One flat fee per order covers both international shipments, the test garment and the final garment. Effective February 1, 2026:

Orders travel by international air courier, FedEx, DHL or UPS, and tracking is emailed when your parcel is dispatched. A signature is required on delivery, so an office address is often easier than a home one. We cannot deliver to PO boxes or to APO and FPO military addresses. Customs and import duty

Import duty and tax are charged by your own country, not by us. They are not included in your order total or your shipping fee, and we cannot predict them: two identical parcels to the same country can clear differently. We would rather say that plainly than let it arrive as a surprise. Check your country’s import rules before you order.

If alterations are still needed

The test garment exists so this rarely happens, but if your final garment needs a small local adjustment we reimburse your tailor’s cost up to these amounts, against a receipt and the alterations form:

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to visit a tailor or attend a fitting?
No. The whole process is done remotely. You take your own measurements at home, enter them on the product page, and the fitting stage happens through the test garment and the photographs you send us. There is no appointment, no showroom visit, and no travel. This is how we tailor for customers in countries we have never set foot in.
Is the test garment free?
Yes. The test garment is included with every bespoke tailored order at no extra charge. It is made in plain cotton, shipped to you, and it is yours to keep. You do not send it back, and your flat shipping fee already covers both its delivery and the delivery of your final garment.
What if the test garment does not fit properly?
That is exactly what it is for. Try it on, photograph yourself from the front, back and both sides, and email the photos with your feedback. Our tailors correct the pattern before your real fabric is cut. Fit issues at this stage are normal and expected. It would be more worrying if a first test garment were perfect, because it would suggest nobody had looked closely.
Can I skip the test garment and go straight to the final garment?
We advise against it, strongly. The test garment is how the fit is guaranteed when we never meet you. Without it there is no way to catch a measurement that was taken differently from how we read it, and the first time anyone would know is when your finished garment arrives in fabric that has already been cut. The two-stage process exists to protect you, not to slow you down.
How do I take my measurements accurately?
Follow our measuring guides, which show each measurement with pictures: the men’s measuring guide and the women’s body measuring guide. Two practical points matter more than anything else. Have a second person hold the tape if at all possible, and measure your body rather than a garment you already own. Do not add ease or round numbers up to be safe: we add the ease, and if you add it too the garment comes out large.
What measurements do I need to provide?
It depends on the garment. A full suit needs jacket and trouser measurements including chest, waist, hips, shoulders, sleeve length, trouser length and rise. A jacket alone needs fewer. Each product page lists exactly what that garment requires, with a step-by-step guide for taking each one.
What if my body is not symmetrical, or I am hard to fit?
Tell us in the comment field when you order, and again with your test garment photos. One shoulder lower than the other, a longer arm on one side, a fuller seat, a curved back: these are ordinary, and they are precisely what a pattern cut for one person can handle and a size on a rail cannot. The test garment photos are where we see it, so photograph yourself standing naturally rather than holding a corrected posture.
How do I send my test garment photos and feedback?
Have someone take clear photos of you wearing the test garment from the front, back and both sides, for each garment in the order. Email them with your written feedback to customerservice@baronboutique.com. Plain daylight, a plain background, arms down and a natural stance are worth more than a good camera. The more specific your feedback, the more precisely we can adjust.
How long does the whole process take?
The test garment takes about 4 weeks, which is 21 business days in production plus 4 to 9 business days in transit. The final garment takes about the same again, counted from the day we receive your feedback. Most customers land between 8 and 10 weeks in total. The part in between is yours, and the clock stops while we wait for your photos, so a fast reply shortens the whole order.
I need it for a specific date. Can you work to a deadline?
Tell us the date before you order, not after, and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable. We would rather turn down an order than take one we cannot deliver in time for a wedding. Bear in mind that customs clearance is outside our control and can add days that no production schedule can absorb.
What does shipping cost?
One flat fee per order, and it covers both international shipments, the test garment and the final garment. As of February 1, 2026 it is $30.25 for Asia, $36.75 for the United Kingdom and Europe, $42.25 for the Americas, $48.30 for Australia and Oceania, and $53.75 for Africa and the rest of the world. Will I have to pay customs duty or import tax?
Possibly, and it is not something we can predict or control. Import duties and taxes are charged by your own country’s customs authority, are not included in your order total or shipping fee, and are non-refundable by us. Two identical parcels to the same country can clear differently. We recommend checking your country’s import rules before you order, so the number is not a surprise on your doorstep.
How is my order delivered?
By international air courier, FedEx, DHL or UPS, with tracking emailed once your parcel is dispatched. A signature is required on delivery, so if you are out during the day an office address is usually easier. We cannot deliver to PO boxes or to APO and FPO military addresses.
Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?
You can cancel free of charge within 24 hours of ordering. After that, fabric sourcing or production may have begun, and a partial charge may apply to cover materials already used. Once the test garment has been dispatched the order cannot be cancelled, because the final garment is already in production. For any change, email customerservice@baronboutique.com with your order number as early as you can.
Can I return a bespoke garment if I change my mind?
No, and we would rather be clear about that before you order than after. A bespoke garment is cut to your body and cannot be resold to anyone else, so custom-made pieces are not returnable or refundable once production has begun. What you get instead is the test garment stage, which catches fit problems before your fabric is cut, and alteration support afterwards. Non-tailored accessories are different: those can be returned within 30 days, unworn and unaltered.
What if the final garment still needs alterations?
All garments are made with extra seam allowance for that reason. Take it to a local tailor and we reimburse reasonable costs up to USD $50 for a suit, $35 for a jacket or blazer, $15 for trousers, and $10 for a shirt or a vest. Send the completed alterations form and your tailor’s receipt to customerservice@baronboutique.com. A garment altered locally cannot then be returned, which is worth knowing before you go. See our Alteration and Refund Policy.
What if my garment arrives damaged or with a fault?
Email customerservice@baronboutique.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and photographs of the problem. In that case you choose either a full refund or a replacement garment at no cost, and we cover the return shipping. This is separate from a change of mind, and it is not limited by the custom-made rule.
If I order again later, do I need another test garment?
Often not. We keep your pattern on file and update it with every correction, so if your measurements have not changed a repeat order can usually skip the test garment stage or need only a small adjustment. That also makes a second order considerably faster than the first.
What if my measurements change over time?
Tell us and send photographs. We keep supporting the fit of a garment we made after the order is closed, and we can advise your local tailor or take the garment back for adjustment. If a garment comes back to us, standard shipping charges apply in both directions.
Do you make womenswear as well as menswear?
Yes, and in the same workroom by the same tailors. Suits, jackets, trousers, skirts, dresses, coats and screen inspired pieces are cut for women as readily as for men. The measuring guide and the fit guide differ, and both are linked from the relevant product pages.
Can you make a screen inspired garment from a film or television costume?
Yes. Our screen inspired pieces are interpretations made from screen references and photographs, cut to your measurements. They are not official, licensed or studio-authorized merchandise, and we do not claim they are. If you have a reference image of something we do not already offer, send it and we will tell you honestly what can and cannot be reproduced.
Can I supply my own fabric?
Yes. Fabric can be supplied by you, or sourced locally or internationally on your behalf, as part of the tailoring service. Ask before you order so we can confirm the quantity your garment needs, because buying short is a more expensive mistake than buying a little long.
I do not have a PayPal account. Can I still pay?
Yes. At checkout, select the card option through PayPal and enter your debit or credit card details directly. No PayPal account is required at any point. Prices are shown in the currency displayed on the site, and any conversion or foreign transaction fee your bank applies is outside our control. See our Payment Policy for full details.
Do cashmere scarves and accessories go through the same process?
No. Scarves, shawls, wraps and non-tailored accessories need no measurements and no test garment. Add them to your cart, pay, and they are made to order in 12 to 14 business days and then shipped, arriving 4 to 9 business days later. Accessories ship free worldwide.
Who actually makes my garment, and where?
Human tailors in our own workroom in Kathmandu, Nepal, where the house has been operating since 2000, with operations extending to Dubai. Nothing is subcontracted to a factory and nothing is cut before you order it. That is also why the lead times on this page are what they are.
