Follow these simple steps to ensure your custom garment fits you perfectly. All you need is a flexible measuring tape.
Measure across your back from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, keeping the tape flat.
Measure from the edge of your shoulder, along the outside of your relaxed arm, to your desired sleeve length.
Measure around the armhole where the sleeve joins the body. Pass the tape from the top of the shoulder, under the armpit, and back to the starting point. Keep the tape comfortably snug. Measure over a lightweight shirt or close-fitting clothing, keeping your arm relaxed at your side.
With muscles relaxed, measure around the fullest part of your upper arm. Keep the tape snug with room for one finger.
Wrap the measuring tape around your wrist bone, where a watch would sit. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Leave room for one finger between the tape and your wrist for comfort
Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the neck, over the fullest part of the bust, and straight down to your desired dress hem. Continue measuring to the finished length of the dress you wish to order, whether it’s a mini, knee-length, midi, maxi, or floor-length dress.
Measure around the base of your neck where a collar would sit, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.

All you need is a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Wear close-fitting clothing so the tape sits against your body, stand naturally with your weight even on both feet, and keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger. Below is every measurement we may ask for. You do not have to get each number perfect: we send a free test garment before cutting your final cloth, so the fit is confirmed on your body first.
Stand straight with your arms relaxed and wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and snug with room for one finger.
Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, usually just above the belly button, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.
Measure around the area where you normally wear your trousers or skirts, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.
Stand with your feet together and measure around the widest part of your hips and seat, keeping the tape level.

A silk tunic dress should fall straight from the shoulders and move when you walk. Bought by dress size, it usually does something else: it tents out from the bust, catches across the hips, and the long sleeves stop either halfway down the hand or short of the wrist, which is the first thing anyone notices on a long-sleeved dress.

Free Test Dress
A loose dress still has to fit somewhere, and on a tunic that place is the shoulders and the bust. When the bust measurement is large compared with the rest of the frame, a dress cut to the bust hangs out like a tent below it; cut to the shoulders, it pulls across the chest. On a test dress we usually move fullness between the front and back, adjust the shoulder slope and set the sleeve length, so the silk falls straight in front instead of swinging out.
If a correction would change the look, such as a dart at the bust that the photos do not show, we explain it, and you decide between the closer fit and the line in the photos.
How It Hangs

A tunic is shaped by the cloth as much as by the pattern. That is why this one has no lining: silk over a lining stiffens, and the dress would hold the shape of the lining instead of the shape of the wearer.
Why Crepe Silk

In our experience, inexpensive silk tunics fail in the cloth first: thin habotai or polyester satin shows every seam, clings in dry weather and creases into a map by lunchtime. A heavier crepe silk, cut to the wearer, is what still looks right the hundredth time it is worn.
