Men’s Navy Herringbone Tuxedo with Black Satin Peak Lapels

$799.00 USD

Most navy tuxedos photograph almost black. A flat wool or polyester blend absorbs venue lighting and loses the color you chose. This tuxedo is built in Super 130s herringbone worsted wool, which holds the navy under every lighting condition. Black silk satin peak lapels. Custom-tailored to your measurements. A free test suit before we cut the final cloth.

Description

The Navy Herringbone Tuxedo: Most Navy Tuxedos Photograph Black. This One Does Not.

Here is something most grooms find out too late: a navy tuxedo in a flat worsted or polyester-blend fabric reads as dark navy in person and photographs almost indistinguishable from black. You chose navy because you wanted something that was not black. In the wedding photos, you cannot tell the difference. The herringbone weave changes that. Light catches across the diagonal texture of the cloth and the navy registers as navy, even in low-light reception photography. It is not a decorative detail. It is why this fabric exists.

This tuxedo is built in Super 130s herringbone worsted wool with black silk satin peak lapels. The peak lapel in satin is the architectural element that separates a tuxedo from a suit: it creates a hard, clean line from collar to button that a notch lapel cannot replicate. Single button closure. Chest welt pocket. Piped hip pockets with flap. Two side vents. Four-button kissing sleeve cuff. The trouser carries a silk satin side stripe, beltless waistband with side-tab adjusters, flat front, and a hand-stitched hem.

Baron builds this tuxedo to your measurements on a canvas front. Before we cut the final cloth, we send you a free test suit to confirm fit. Peak lapels in satin sit or move with the jacket: a lapel that does not lie flat because the canvas is wrong, or the chest is off by half an inch, is immediately visible. We confirm the fit first.

Free Test Suit: Because Satin Peak Lapels Show Everything

A peak lapel is a precise construction. It has to lie flat against the chest, roll cleanly at the gorge, and sit symmetrically on both sides. When it does this correctly, it creates the architectural line that defines a tuxedo’s authority. When it does not, because the chest is slightly wide or the canvas front is set for a different body, the lapel pulls away from the chest or twists at the tip. You cannot pin it flat. You cannot press it flat. The fix is in the fit of the jacket, not the lapel itself.

Before we cut your tuxedo in Super 130s herringbone wool, we build a complete test suit in cotton to your measurements and ship it to you via trackable courier. You try on the jacket and trousers. You check the shoulder line, chest fit, lapel roll, jacket length, and trouser break. You send us your notes. We correct every note in the pattern before we cut the final cloth. The test suit is yours to keep.

This is a wedding tuxedo. The photos exist for the rest of your life. The fit needs to be correct before we cut the cloth.

Who This Tuxedo Is For

The Groom Who Chose Navy and Wants It to Actually Look Navy
You made a deliberate decision not to wear black. You want the color to register in photographs, in the ceremony, and when you stand next to the bride. Most navy tuxedos in flat wool or polyester blends collapse under low venue lighting and photograph as dark grey or black. Super 130s herringbone wool catches light across the weave and holds the color. The navy you chose is the navy that shows up.
The Groom Who Wants a Peak Lapel and Cannot Find One That Fits
Peak lapels in navy tuxedos are not common off the rack. When they do exist, they come in a handful of chest sizes and the lapel sits correctly on maybe one of them. The peak lapel is an architectural element: its stance is determined by the fit of the jacket front. Built to your measurements on a canvas front, it lies flat the way it is supposed to. You have been waiting to find this tuxedo. This is the reason it has been difficult to find.
The Man Getting Married Somewhere with Weather
Outdoor ceremonies, destination weddings, venue changes, long days. Super 130s worsted wool at this weight breathes, does not retain heat the way a heavy black barathea tuxedo does, and recovers from sitting without showing seat creases. You will be in this tuxedo for eight to twelve hours. The fabric is chosen accordingly.
The Man Who Has Never Worn a Tuxedo That Was Actually His
Rented tuxedos fit the previous renter. Off-the-rack tuxedos fit a size chart. Neither fits a body. A tuxedo is a more demanding garment than a suit. The satin lapels, the side stripe, the clean front, all of it requires the jacket to sit correctly to look correct. Built to your measurements with a free test before we cut the final cloth, this tuxedo is the first one you will have worn that was actually made for you.

This tuxedo is a milestone garment built for repeated wear. Canvas front construction, Super 130s herringbone wool, and hand-finished buttonholes are not appropriate for a one-occasion rental mindset. This is made to last.

Questions About the Navy Herringbone Tuxedo

Why does a herringbone weave make a difference for a navy tuxedo specifically?
A flat worsted navy fabric absorbs light evenly and reads as a single, dark tone. Under the low and mixed lighting of most wedding venues, that tone collapses toward black in photographs. A herringbone weave creates a diagonal structure in the cloth that reflects light at slightly different angles across the surface. The result is that the navy reads as navy at every distance and in most lighting conditions. It also adds a textural depth that is visible in photographs without being loud or patterned. For a groom who chose navy over black for a reason, the herringbone weave is what makes that choice visible.
What is the difference between a full canvas and a fused front tuxedo?
A fused front tuxedo uses adhesive to bond the facing to the outer fabric. It holds its shape when new. Over dry cleaning cycles, the adhesive breaks down, the fabric separates from the facing, and the jacket front bubbles. You will not know it has happened until it has. A canvas front uses a layer of horsehair canvas floating between the outer fabric and the lining. It molds to the wearer’s chest and holds its silhouette permanently. For a tuxedo worn at a wedding and kept for future milestones, fused front construction is not appropriate. Canvas front is the correct construction for a garment expected to last.
How does the free test suit work for a tuxedo order?
You enter your measurements on the product page when you order. We build a complete test suit in cotton to your measurements, jacket and trousers in the full tuxedo pattern, and ship it to you via trackable courier. You try it on and check the shoulder line, lapel roll, chest fit, jacket length, and trouser break. You send us your adjustment notes. We correct every note in the final pattern before cutting the Super 130s herringbone wool. The test suit is yours to keep. For a peak lapel tuxedo, the lapel fit is the critical check. Note anything that does not lie perfectly flat and we will correct it before cutting the final cloth.
Can I wear this tuxedo to a black tie event or is it only for weddings?
Yes. A navy tuxedo with black silk satin peak lapels and a matching satin trouser stripe is fully appropriate for black tie occasions. Navy has been an accepted black tie alternative to black for decades and is increasingly common at formal events. The canvas front construction, hand-finished buttonholes, and silk satin details meet the construction standard expected at black tie. For gala events, formal dinners, and evening receptions, this tuxedo is appropriate wherever black would be worn.
What colors are available?
Nine herringbone wool colors: Navy Blue (default), Gray, Midnight Blue, Dark Gray, Charcoal, Black, Med Gray, Dusky Blue, and Petrol Blue. All at the same price. Over 30 lining colors are also available. Navy Blue with a black lining is the classic combination for a wedding tuxedo. Midnight Blue is a popular choice for evening events where you want the color to read as distinctly blue rather than near-black.
How long does the whole process take?
Plan on 6 to 8 weeks from order to final tuxedo in your hands. The test suit takes 3 to 4 weeks to build and ship. Once you confirm the fit, the final tuxedo takes 3 to 4 weeks in production. If you have a specific wedding date, tell us when you order and we will confirm honestly whether we can meet it. Order as early as possible for a milestone garment.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. Both the test suit and the final tuxedo ship worldwide via trackable courier. Delivery times vary by destination. We ship to every country we are aware of buyers ordering from.
What shirt and accessories work with a navy herringbone tuxedo?
A white dress shirt with a turn-down collar or semi-spread collar is the standard choice. A white or ivory pocket square in a flat fold complements the clean front. A black silk bow tie matches the satin lapel facing. For a less formal occasion, a deep navy or silver silk tie also works. Avoid a cummerbund with this tuxedo. The side-tab beltless trouser and satin stripe do not need one and a cummerbund adds unnecessary bulk under a single-button jacket.
Is this suitable for groomsmen as well?
Yes. Multiple orders at the same time are common for wedding parties. Each groomsman orders to his own measurements independently, and each goes through the same test suit process. Every tuxedo is built to the individual, not to a single pattern scaled across sizes. Contact us before ordering a large party and we will confirm production timelines for the full group.

The problem with a linen wedding suit off the rack is that linen without a proper fit looks underdressed, not relaxed.
