The problem
Why Ready-Made Silk Sleepwear Rarely Fits
Silk charmeuse has almost no stretch. A cotton pajama can hide a size that is slightly wrong; silk shows it at once. The complaints we hear, and that fill the reviews of ready-made silk, come back to the same four places.
Sleeves that stop short
A sleeve labeled “long” still lands above the wrist when the shoulder seam sits too narrow. We cut the sleeve to your arm and set the shoulder to your frame.
Trousers the wrong length
Standard women’s silk pajama inseams sit around 30.5 inches, too short for tall wearers and too long for petite ones. Your inseam and rise come from your measurements, not a size chart.
Button fronts that gape
The bust is where a button front has to bridge the most curve. We space the buttons to your measurements so the front lies flat when you turn on your side.
Robes that fall open
A robe can fit at the bust and still be short on a tall frame, or slip open at night. Length, wrap overlap and belt position are drafted for you, with an inside tie to hold the wrap.
The garments
What We Make
Four garments, one design family, so a robe and a pajama set can be ordered as a matching pair, or as his-and-hers sets. Each is cut from its own pattern, because a man’s robe is not a woman’s robe in a larger size.

One design family: the same navy silk, the same piping, cut to two different patterns.
A great deal of what is sold as silk sleepwear is polyester satin. Satin is a weave, not a fiber, so the word alone tells you very little. Here is exactly what we use.
Fiber
100% mulberry silk, grade 6A
Weave
Charmeuse: satin face, matte reverse
Weight
22 momme: dense, opaque and heavier than the 16 to 19 momme common in ready-made sleepwear
Moisture
Silk takes up about 11% moisture from the air; polyester takes up less than 1%
How to tell real silk from polyester satin
Real silk warms quickly in your hand; polyester stays cool and slippery.
Silk has a soft, shifting sheen; polyester has a flat, even shine that looks the same from every angle.
A burn test on a loose thread smells like burnt hair and leaves a crumbly ash; polyester melts into a hard bead.
The label must state the fiber. “Silky”, “satin” or “silk feel” is not a fiber.
We send swatches before you commit, so you can judge the weight and color yourself.
Construction
Made to Last, and Made to Be Repaired
Silk sleepwear fails at the seams and at the stress points long before the fabric wears out. Every piece we make is built to avoid that, and to be altered or repaired later rather than replaced.
Corded pipingContinuous and even along every edgeMother-of-pearl buttonsStandard on every pajama shirtPiped chest pocketCorners reinforced against strainTurn-back cuffEnds at the wrist bone, piped at the edge
French seams throughout, so no raw edge can fray against your skin or in the wash.
Reinforced stress points at pocket corners, belt loops and the trouser crotch, where silk most often gives way.
Mother-of-pearl buttons as standard.
Seam allowances left in, so the garment can be let out or taken in later.

Measuring at Home, Without the Worry
You do not need to be a tailor to measure yourself, and you do not need to be perfect. A tape measure, a mirror and ten minutes are enough, and a second pair of hands helps. The free test garment is there precisely so that a small error at home never reaches the silk.
Here are the ten measurements we ask for, the same for everyone. Before you start: measure over light clothing, keep the tape level and snug but never tight, and write each number down as you go. Inches or centimeters are both fine; just tell us which you used.
1Height
Stand barefoot with your back against a wall and your heels together. Ask someone to mark the top of your head, then measure from the floor to the mark.
2Chest or bust
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest or bust, under the arms and level all the way round. Keep it snug, with room for one finger.
3Waist
Measure around your body where you like your pajama waistband to sit, usually at or just below the navel. Keep the tape level and comfortable.
4Hips
Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat, keeping the tape level.
5Shoulder width
Measure across your back from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, following the natural curve. A second pair of hands makes this one easy.
6Sleeve length
With your arm relaxed at your side, measure from the edge of your shoulder, down the outside of the arm, to where you want the sleeve to end.
7Back length
Tilt your head forward to find the bone at the base of your neck. Measure from there straight down your spine to your natural waist, which is usually a little above your pajama waist.
8Inseam
Measure from the top of your inner thigh straight down the inside of your leg to where you want the trousers to end.
9Rise
Start at your waistband height at the front, pass the tape down between your legs and bring it up to the same height at the back. Keep it close but not tight.
10Robe length
From the highest point of your shoulder, next to your neck, measure straight down to where you want the robe to end: the knee, mid-calf or ankle.
Measuring the whole family? Print our measuring sheet. It has the same ten steps and a column for each person, so everyone can be measured in one sitting.
The one step that does matter is the test garment. Put it on properly, the way you will actually wear the finished piece, and send clear photos from the front, the side and the back, with your arms relaxed. Those photos are how we see the fit from our atelier.
Tall, petite, plus-size, broad-shouldered or long-armed: these are the bodies ready-made sizes leave out, and they are the reason this service exists.

Gifts and Ordering Together
A bespoke garment is hard to give as a surprise, because it needs measurements. A gift certificate solves that. You choose the garment; the recipient sends their measurements whenever they are ready, receives the free test garment, and gets a piece cut for them alone.
It suits anniversaries, weddings and the morning of one, a new baby, a milestone birthday, a long hospital or recovery stay, or simply a partner who has never owned sleepwear that fits.
Ordering together
Silk sleepwear is often shared across a home: matching robes for a couple, pajamas for the whole family on a holiday morning, or robes for a bride and her bridesmaids to get ready in. However many of you there are, each person is measured on their own, tries on their own free test garment and receives a garment cut to their own pattern. That fitting step is the heart of what we do, so nobody goes without it, and ordering together takes no longer than ordering alone.
Matching monograms or initials, one set for each person, make the garments feel like they belong together. For a group of up to five, each garment is at its listed price; for a group of six or more, we will talk you through a family price. If you are dressing a hotel, spa or company, our custom corporate gifts page is the better place to start, and if you would like to sell the garments or put your own label on them, please see our private label program. This page is for garments made for the people who will wear them at home.
If anything ever needs adjusting, send it back to us. Repairs and alterations are free for as long as you own the garment; you only cover shipping.
Heavy silk charmeuse behaves differently from everyday fabrics, so we prefer to make any changes ourselves, with the same hands and the same pattern that made it. When the test garment step is followed, you should not need an adjustment at all.
Want another in a new color, or a matching robe a year later? Your pattern and order details are kept on file, so a reorder needs no new measurements.
Keeping it well
Caring for Silk Sleepwear
Hand wash in cool water, or machine wash on a delicate cycle inside a mesh bag.
Use a pH-neutral or silk detergent. No bleach, no fabric softener.
Roll in a towel to remove water. Never wring.
Dry flat or on a padded hanger, in the shade. Direct sun fades silk.
Press on the reverse at a low silk setting. Never tumble dry.
Lotions, deodorant and perfume mark silk more than sleep does, so let them dry before you dress.

Frequently Asked Questions
Fit and Measuring
What makes these silk pajamas bespoke rather than just custom-sized?
Custom sizing adjusts a stock pattern from a form you fill in. Bespoke means a pattern is drafted for your body alone. At Baron Boutique we cut your pattern from your measurements, send you a free test garment to check the fit, and correct the pattern before any silk is cut. The pattern is then kept on file for future orders.
Which measurements do you need, and can I measure myself at home?
Yes, you measure yourself at home with our guide. We ask for chest or bust, waist, hips, shoulder width, sleeve length, back length, inseam and rise, plus your height. For robes we also ask where you want the hem to fall. A second person helps, but it is not essential, and the free test garment catches any small error.
What if I make a mistake when measuring?
That is expected, and it is fine. The free test garment exists to catch it. You try it on, send us clear photos from the front, side and back, and we correct the pattern before your silk is cut. The one thing we ask is that you wear the test garment properly, the way you will wear the finished piece.
Can you make silk pajamas or a robe for a tall, petite or plus-size body?
Yes, and those are the bodies this service is built for. Because the pattern is drafted from your own measurements, sleeve and inseam length, robe length, shoulder width and bust room are set for you rather than taken from a size chart. Broad shoulders and long arms are handled the same way.
How do you stop a silk pajama top from gaping at the bust?
Gaping happens when a button front is too tight across the bust or the buttons sit too far apart at its fullest point. We give the front the room your measurements call for and space the five buttons to your bust, so the front stays flat when you turn on your side or reach forward.
How do you keep a silk robe from falling open at night?
Three details work together: a generous wrap overlap drafted for your frame, belt loops placed at your natural waist rather than a standard height, and an inside tie that holds the wrap closed independently of the belt. Robe length is also set to your height, so it covers as far as you want it to.
What is the free test garment made of?
It is made in cotton to your pattern, so you can judge length, sleeve, shoulder and ease before the silk is cut. It is free of charge. [CONFIRM: test garment fabric for sleepwear]
The Silk
What silk do you use?
We use 100% mulberry silk charmeuse, grade 6A, at 22 momme. Charmeuse has a satin face and a matte reverse. The silk is woven and every garment is cut and sewn by our own tailors.
What is momme, and why 22 momme?
Momme is the weight of silk fabric. Higher momme means more silk in each square meter, which usually means more opacity and more durability. Much ready-made silk sleepwear is 16 to 19 momme. We chose 22 momme because it is dense and opaque, drapes with weight, and stands up better to regular washing.
How can I tell real silk from polyester satin?
Satin is a weave, not a fiber, so check the label for the fiber itself. Real silk warms quickly in your hand and has a soft, shifting sheen, while polyester stays cool and has a flat, uniform shine. A burned thread of silk smells like burnt hair and crumbles to ash; polyester melts into a hard bead. We send swatches so you can judge before you order.
Which colors are available?
Our four house colors are navy, champagne, ivory and burgundy, each with a contrast piping. Because we buy the silk for each order, any color on our supplier’s stock color card is also possible. Ask for the card when you get in touch.
Craft and Durability
How is your silk sleepwear constructed?
Every Baron Boutique silk garment has French seams throughout, so no raw edge is exposed, reinforced stress points at pocket corners, belt loops and the trouser crotch, and mother-of-pearl buttons as standard. Seam allowances are left in so the garment can be let out or taken in later.
Why do ready-made silk pajamas tear, and how is yours different?
Silk sleepwear usually fails where the strain is highest: at the seams, the crotch and the pocket corners, especially when a garment is tight in the wrong places. We reduce both causes. The fit is drafted for you, so no seam is under constant strain, and the stress points are reinforced. If something does give way, we repair it free of charge.
Can I order a matching robe and pajama set, or his-and-hers sets?
Yes. All four garments share one design family: the same silk, the same piping and the same finishing. You can order a matching robe and pajama set for one person, or pairs for two people, each cut to its own pattern.
Can I add a monogram?
Yes. Initials can be embroidered on the chest pocket, the cuff or inside the collar, in a thread color of your choice. A monogrammed piece, like every bespoke piece, is made for one person and is not refundable.
Can we order bespoke silk sleepwear together, as a family or a wedding party?
Yes, however many of you there are. Each person sends their own measurements, tries on their own free test garment and receives a garment cut to their own pattern, with matching monograms or initials if you like. Ordering together takes the same time as ordering alone. For a group of up to five, each garment is at its listed price; for a group of six or more, we offer a family price. If you are dressing a hotel, spa or company, our custom corporate gifts page is the better fit.
Care and Comfort
How do I wash silk pajamas and robes?
Hand wash in cool water, or use a delicate machine cycle with the garment inside a mesh bag. Use a pH-neutral or silk detergent without bleach or fabric softener. Roll the garment in a towel instead of wringing it, dry it flat or on a padded hanger in the shade, and press on the reverse at a low silk setting. Never tumble dry.
Are silk pajamas good for warm climates or hot sleepers?
Silk is a natural protein fiber. It absorbs about 11% moisture from the air, compared with less than 1% for polyester satin, and it feels cool on first touch. Comfort in heat also depends on fit and ease: a garment that clings or pulls feels warmer than one that sits correctly, which a bespoke pattern controls. We make no medical claims about silk.
Is silk sleepwear slippery in bed?
Charmeuse has a smooth face, so it moves easily against sheets. A correct fit helps: trousers of the right length and a top with the right ease do not twist or ride up. If you are a restless sleeper, choose a slightly closer ease when you order, and we will cut for it.
Gifts and Family
How do I give bespoke silk pajamas as a gift if I do not know the size?
Choose a gift certificate. You pick the garment, and the recipient sends their own measurements whenever they are ready, receives the free test garment, and gets a piece cut for them alone. [CONFIRM: gift certificate live before publishing]
What occasions suit a bespoke silk robe or pajama set?
Anniversaries, a wedding morning, a honeymoon, a new baby, a milestone birthday, a long hospital or recovery stay, or simply someone who has never owned sleepwear that fits. Because it is worn every night rather than kept for an occasion, it remains in use long after the date that prompted it.
Ordering and Aftercare
How much do bespoke silk pajamas and robes cost?
Women’s robes start from $899 USD, men’s dressing gowns from $899 USD, women’s pajama sets from $799 USD and men’s pajama sets from $799 USD. The free test garment is included. Shipping is quoted with your order.
Is bespoke silk sleepwear worth the price?
It depends on how you judge value. A bespoke silk robe or pajama set from Baron Boutique is worn most nights, fits because the pattern was drafted for you, is made in 22 momme silk rather than the lighter weights common in ready-made sleepwear, and is built with French seams so it can be repaired and altered for free rather than replaced. If you want something for a single occasion, ready-made silk may suit you better.
Is there a minimum order?
No. One robe or one pajama set, for you or for someone you love, is a complete order. If several of you are ordering together, see the question above about ordering as a family or a wedding party.
Can I buy bespoke silk sleepwear to resell, or under my own label?
This page is for garments made for the people who will wear them at home. For resale or your own label, our private label program is the place to start.
How long does it take?
Your free test garment is made in 3 to 4 weeks. Once you approve the fit, the silk garment takes another 3 to 4 weeks, so the workshop time is 6 to 8 weeks in all, plus transit by tracked courier. Ordering together takes the same time. The time the test garment spends with you depends on how quickly you try it on and send photos.
Which countries do you ship to?
We ship worldwide by tracked courier. Customs duties depend on your country.
What if something needs adjusting after delivery?
Send it back to us and we will alter it free of charge; you only cover shipping. Heavy silk behaves differently from everyday fabrics, so we prefer to make changes ourselves, with the same hands and the same pattern that made the garment. When the test garment step is followed, you should not need one.
Are repairs and alterations really free?
Yes. Repairs and alterations to Baron Boutique silk sleepwear are free, year after year, for as long as you own the garment. Shipping is charged.
Can I return a bespoke silk garment?
No. Each piece is cut to one person’s pattern, so it cannot be resold, and it is not refundable. That is why the fit is settled with the free test garment before the silk is cut, and why alterations afterwards are free. Full terms are on our alteration, return and refund policy page.
Can I cancel my order?
Cancellation is free within 24 hours of ordering. After that, and before the test garment ships, a partial charge applies. Once the test garment has shipped, the order cannot be cancelled.
Can I reorder without being measured again?
Yes. Your pattern and order details are kept on file, so a second robe, a new color or a matching set can be ordered without new measurements. If your measurements have changed, tell us and we will adjust the pattern.
