Follow these simple steps to ensure your custom garment fits you perfectly. All you need is a flexible measuring tape.
Measure across your back from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, keeping the tape flat.
Measure from the edge of your shoulder, along the outside of your relaxed arm, to your desired sleeve length.
Measure around the armhole where the sleeve joins the body. Pass the tape from the top of the shoulder, under the armpit, and back to the starting point. Keep the tape comfortably snug. Measure over a lightweight shirt or close-fitting clothing, keeping your arm relaxed at your side.
With muscles relaxed, measure around the fullest part of your upper arm. Keep the tape snug with room for one finger.
Wrap the measuring tape around your wrist bone, where a watch would sit. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Leave room for one finger between the tape and your wrist for comfort
Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the neck, over the fullest part of the bust, and straight down to your desired garment length. Continue to the desired hem for the garment you are ordering, whether it’s a shirt, jacket, blazer, coat, or full-length coat.
Measure around the base of your neck where a collar would sit, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.
Stand straight with your arms relaxed. Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and snug with room for a finger.
Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, typically above the belly button. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.
Stand with your feet together and measure around the widest part of your hips and seat. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.
Measure around your waist where you normally wear the waistband of your pants or skirts. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.
Measure around the fullest part of your upper thigh, keeping the tape snug with room for one finger.
Measure around your ankle or the width of the trouser hem on a well-fitting pair of pants (flat, across x2).
Measure from the top of your waistband down the outside of your leg to the point where you want the trouser hem to finish.
Measure from the highest point of the crotch down the inside of your leg to the same hem point used for the trouser length measurement.
Women’s Measuring Guide
All you need is a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Wear close-fitting clothing so the tape sits against your body, stand naturally with your weight even on both feet, and keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger. Below is every measurement we may ask for. You do not have to get each number perfect: we send a free test garment before cutting your final cloth, so the fit is confirmed on your body first.
Stand straight with your arms relaxed and wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and snug with room for one finger.
Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, usually just above the belly button, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.

Before we cut your chosen cloth, we make a test version of your garment in cotton, cut from the same pattern, and send it to you free. You try it on and tell us what to change. Only after you approve the fit do we make the final piece. The test garment is yours to keep.

Most silk blazers and silk jackets for women are made from charmeuse or crepe: soft, fluid cloths that drape beautifully on a hanger and lose their shape on the body, especially at the shoulders and lapels. Dupioni is different. It is a crisp silk woven from uneven yarns, so it has a fine slubbed texture, a natural sheen and enough body to hold a tailored line.
This women’s silk blazer is cut from 100% dupioni silk on a light canvas front, with inset peak lapels and a single button at the natural waist. It is made to your measurements, and you try a free cotton test blazer at home before the silk is cut.

Free Test Blazer
A wool jacket can hide a little tension; dupioni silk cannot, because its sheen picks up every ripple. Below is a real client’s cotton test blazer, photographed during her fitting: the shoulders, waist and sleeve length were confirmed in cotton before her silk blazer was made.
With silk, small fit errors show more, so the test blazer matters even more than usual. The changes we make most often are at the shoulders, the back and the bust position, along with buttons placed so the front does not gape at the waist. The design in the photos is a starting point; if your body needs an extra dart or a different button position, the final blazer follows you, not the picture.
Why Dupioni
| Dupioni silk | Crisp, with a slubbed texture and a two-tone sheen from different colored warp and weft. Holds a lapel and a sculpted waist; the right silk for a tailored jacket. |
| Charmeuse or satin | Liquid and glossy. Lovely for a blouse or the unstructured silky jacket ladies often buy for summer, but it creases easily and collapses at the shoulders when tailored. |
| Silk crepe | Matte and drapey, closer to a dress fabric than a jacket cloth. |
The trade-offs are worth knowing. Dupioni creases at the elbows and the back after sitting; the creases soften on a hanger and a cool iron through a cloth removes them. Water can mark silk, so avoid wearing it in heavy rain, and keep perfume off the cloth.
The Cloths
