Frequently Asked Questions
Why does linen show a bad fit more than other fabrics?
Linen has almost no elasticity and no padding underneath it. In a structured blazer with a fused chest piece, the construction holds a shape even if the fit is slightly off. In an unstructured, unlined linen jacket, there is nothing to compensate. The fabric drapes exactly as the cut dictates. A shoulder that sits a centimeter wide looks a centimeter wide. This is why a well-fitted linen jacket looks exceptional and why a poorly fitted one looks worse than a poorly fitted wool blazer would. The fabric amplifies both good tailoring and bad.
What is pre-washed linen, and why does it matter?
Raw linen straight from the mill is stiff. Most linen jackets you find in stores are made from unwashed cloth, which means the jacket feels boardlike for the first several wears until the fabric relaxes from body heat, movement, and washing. Pre-washed linen has already gone through that process. It arrives soft, with the natural texture settled, and feels broken in from the first time you put it on. You do not have to earn the softness.
What does unstructured mean in a blazer, and is it right for me?
A structured blazer has an internal chest piece, shoulder padding, and stiffeners that hold the jacket to a rigid shape. Unstructured means none of that. The jacket drapes from your shoulders, moves with your body, and folds flat in a bag without creasing permanently. For a linen jacket worn in warm weather, unstructured is almost always the right choice. It gives you the polished appearance of a blazer without the weight or rigidity. If you are unsure, it is worth noting that the same fabrics worn by Mediterranean tailors and worn across warm-climate diplomacy for generations are almost always unstructured.

Can this jacket be made as part of a full linen suit?

No. All 18 colors are the same price. The herringbone natural costs the same as the turquoise or the burgundy. Choose the color you actually want.
