How do I measure my bust, waist and length for a custom garment?
Use a flexible tape. For the bust, wrap it around the fullest part with the tape level. For the waist, measure the narrowest part, usually just above the belly button. For length, measure from the shoulder or natural waist down to your desired hem. Keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger, and measure over close-fitting clothing rather than bulky layers.
How do I measure my waist, hips, thighs and rise?
Measure the waist at the narrowest point, the hips around the widest part of your hips and seat, and the thigh around the fullest part of the upper leg. For the rise, sit down and measure from the front of your natural waist, down between your legs to the seat. Keep the tape level and snug throughout.
Where can I get my measurements taken?
Any local tailor or seamstress can take your measurements in a few minutes, and many fabric or bridal shops offer measuring too. You can also measure yourself at home with a flexible tape using this guide, or have a friend help with the back and shoulder measurements. Because we send a free test garment before cutting your final cloth, the fit is confirmed on your body regardless of who takes the first measurements.
What do I need to measure myself?
Just a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Wear close-fitting clothing so the tape sits against your body, and stand naturally with your weight even on both feet.
How tight should the measuring tape be?
Snug but not tight. The tape should sit flat against your body with just enough room to slip one finger underneath. Pulling it too tight gives measurements that are too small, and leaving it loose makes the garment baggy.
What if my measurements are not perfect?
That is exactly why we send a free test garment. Give us your best measurements, and we build a test version in a stand-in cloth to your numbers and ship it to you. You try it on, we adjust from there, and nothing is cut in your final fabric until the fit is confirmed.

Most 12th Doctor cosplay coats are made to be photographed once. They shine under convention lights and the lapels curl by the second day. The Red Lining
The Flash of Red Is the Whole Point
The 12th Doctor red velvet coat is remembered for what happens when it moves: the burgundy outside, the red inside, the swing of the hem. We line the coat in red satin by default and finish each five-button working cuff with a single red middle button, the small detail fans notice first.
If you would rather keep the secret quieter, any other satin lining in the selector can replace the red, from black to gold paisley.
The Velvet
Burgundy, Maroon or Red: What Velvet Are You Getting?
The cloth is a poly-cotton velvet: cotton for the soft, matte pile, polyester for strength and color that holds. A pure cotton velvet crushes and fades faster; a pure polyester velvet shines like plastic under lights. This blend sits between the two.
Burgundy velvet coat
The default and the screen-inspired color: a deep wine red that turns almost black in shadow.
Maroon velvet coat
Close to burgundy but browner. Burgundy reads as maroon in low light.
Red velvet coat
Brighter than burgundy. If you want a red velvet coat, women’s sizes and all, choose it from the velvet colors.

Velvet changes shade with the direction of the pile. We cut every panel the same way, so the front, the sleeves and the back read as one color in a photo, which is where many velvet coats give themselves away.

Change the velvet and the lining, and the same cut stops being a costume. In black velvet with a black lining it is a womens velvet coat for evening; in navy it is a velvet coat womens wear to work over trousers. One of our customers bought the navy velvet first and came back for the burgundy.

After already purchasing the navy velvet and being totally convinced about the quality of it, I also ordered the burgundy coat.
The coat is absolutely lovely, and fits me as the other coat perfectly. After going through the process of fitting with the navy coat, baronboutique kept my measurements and went straight to work.
When I remember correctly I ordered in beginning of September and got it like four weeks later. Maybe it was only three. So it was quickly done and I can’t find any faults in the quality.
The burgundy is very crisp and a nice colour. The fabric is slightly thicker as the navy and when you look down at yourself the colour looks slightly shiny but looking into a mirror it never appears shiny. I guess it’s the angle you look at it and how the light falls into it. But I know there are coats that look horrible cheap, this is not the thing here.
When I was at a convention people complimented my coat and someone who is very active with sewing and has some good knowledge of fabrics told me the fabric is super nice and good quality.
The coat has two pockets for a sonic or other belongings, and two outside pockets.
If you are looking for a good, affordable cosplay as the 12th Doctor or as casual wear, I think this is the coat your are looking for.

The doubts most women have, and why you can relax
I am worried a custom-made coat will be too tight over my jumpers.
This is the most common coat worry, and it is exactly what we plan for. A coat is cut with more ease than a jacket precisely so it closes comfortably over your layers, and when you try the free test garment we ask you to put it on over the jumper or blazer you would normally wear underneath. If it feels at all snug, we add room before the final cloth is cut, so the finished coat is never tight over your usual layers.
A coat is a big spend. What if it arrives and it is wrong?
Nothing final, and nothing costly, is cut until you have approved the fit on the free test garment. You are not gambling a large sum on a coat you have never seen on your body; you are confirming the fit on a test version first, over your layers, and only then do we cut the real cloth. That is the whole point of the process, to take the risk out of the biggest, most visible piece in your wardrobe.
I have never been able to find a coat that fits my shoulders and my shape at once.
That is precisely who custom-made is for. Off-the-rack coats are cut to an average frame, so if your shoulders, bust, or height are not average, something is always wrong. I am nervous about measuring myself for something this important.
You do not need to get it perfect. Our guide takes you through each measurement, a friend or a local tailor can help, and you measure over light clothing so we can allow for layers ourselves. The free test garment is there to catch anything that is slightly off, we see the coat on your body and adjust, so a first-try measurement is completely fine.
How do I choose the right length without seeing it on?
Tell us the look you want, cropped, mid-thigh, knee, or full-length, and we draft it to your height so the proportion suits your frame. If you are unsure, a length that ends around the mid-thigh or knee flatters most people. The test garment then lets you see the length on your body and change it before the final coat is cut, so you are never guessing.
Will a fitted coat still look shaped, or will it end up boxy to fit the layers?
It stays shaped. We build in enough room for layers while still cutting a waist and a clean line, so the coat reads as tailored, not as a box. You choose how close or relaxed you want it, and the test garment lets you confirm that balance of room and shape on your own body.
What if my size changes, or I want to wear it over heavier layers in future?
Coats carry generous seam allowances, so a local tailor can adjust the body within reason if your shape changes. And because we cut with layering in mind and keep your measurements on record, you can tell us up front if you plan to wear it over heavy knits, and we allow for it.
The whole custom process feels intimidating. What actually happens?
It is simpler than it sounds. You choose the coat, cloth, and length and send your measurements; we make a free test garment and post it to you; you try it on over your layers and send notes and photos; we adjust and then cut and hand-tailor your final coat; and it ships to you with tracking. At no point are you committing to a finished coat you have not already seen fit on your body.

This coat fits like a dream and looks spectacular. I ordered it June 16th and I got the finished product on July 22nd (the test coat arrived on July 6th) — so everything not only looks great, it was also done even more quickly than I expected it to be (with plenty of time to spare before the Boston Fan Expo in mid-August). Lovely burgundy, convinced by the qualityLovely burgundy coat
After already purchasing the navy velvet and being totally convinced about the quality of it, I also ordered the burgundy coat.
The coat is absolutely lovely, and fits me as the other coat perfectly. After going through the process of fitting with the navy coat, baronboutique kept my measurements and went straight to work.
When I remember correctly I ordered in beginning of September and got it like four weeks later. Maybe it was only three. So it was quickly done and I can’t find any faults in the quality.
The burgundy is very crisp and a nice colour. The fabric is slightly thicker as the navy and when you look down at yourself the colour looks slightly shiny but looking into a mirror it never appears shiny. I guess it’s the angle you look at it and how the light falls into it. But I know there are coats that look horrible cheap, this is not the thing here.
When I was at a convention people complimented my coat and someone who is very active with sewing and has some good knowledge of fabrics told me the fabric is super nice and good quality.
The coat has two pockets for a sonic or other belongings, and two outside pockets.
