6 Button Double Breasted Suit, Custom Made in Super 120s Wool

(1 customer review)

$729.00

Most double-breasted suits off the rack are either boxy legacy cuts from a different era or cheap modern versions with fused fronts that collapse after a few wears. Neither looks right. Baron builds the 6×2 double-breasted suit to your measurements in Super 120s worsted wool, with a canvas front, wide peak lapels, and the correct waist suppression that makes this silhouette work. We send a free test suit first so you can confirm the 6×2 stance before we cut the final wool.

The 6 Button Double Breasted Suit: The Silhouette Every Tailor Is Cutting

The skinny suit is finished. Every menswear publication and every serious tailor agrees on this. The suit of the current era has a wider lapel, a fuller trouser, and, increasingly, a 6×2 double-breasted front. This is not a trend from a runway that will not translate to real life. It is happening on the street, in offices, and at events right now, and it looks nothing like the boxy, padded double-breasted suits your father wore to a 1990s conference.

Men's bespoke 6 button double breasted suit in charcoal worsted wool, slim fit with wide peak lapels and 6x2 button front, full front view

Most men who have avoided the double-breasted silhouette are avoiding the wrong thing. They are avoiding a memory of stiff, heavily padded construction from a fused-front suit cut with too much fabric at the chest. That suit made men look wide and boxy because it was built wrong, not because the silhouette is wrong. A 6×2 double-breasted suit with a canvas front, correct waist suppression, and wide peak lapels does the opposite. It creates a defined chest, a narrowed waist, and a V-line that makes men look taller and more considered.

Baron builds this suit to your measurements in Super 120s 100% worsted wool, with a canvas front, wide peak lapels, and the 6×2 configuration that is the modern standard for the DB silhouette. Before we cut the final wool, we send you a free test suit. You try it on, confirm the fit, and then we build the real thing.

Real Customer: The Free Try-On Suit in Action

Below are photographs from a customer’s double-breasted try-on suit fitting. This is what the complimentary test suit looks like in practice, and why the process works. The customer sees the double-breasted stance, the peak lapel positioning, and the trouser break before a single thread of the final wool is cut.

“Fits wonderfully, the test suit really put my mind at ease. Excellent craftsmanship.” Kieran Prendergast, verified buyer.

Free Test Suit: Confirm the Double Breasted Stance Before We Cut the Wool

The double-breasted suit has one fitting challenge that single-breasted suits do not have. The 6×2 front creates a defined overlap and stance, the position of the two fastening buttons relative to your chest and waist. If the stance is slightly off, the entire front reads as misaligned. You cannot pin-correct a double-breasted stance the way you can adjust a single-breasted jacket at a fitting. It has to be right in the pattern.

Before we cut your final suit in Super 120s worsted wool, we make a complete test suit in cotton to your measurements, jacket and trousers, and ship it to you via trackable courier. You wear it. You check the shoulder line, the 6×2 stance, the lapel roll, the trouser break. You send us your notes, and we apply every correction to the final pattern before the wool is touched. The test suit is yours to keep.

This is not standard practice at any other price point. Off-the-rack suits do not offer it. Most made-to-measure services online do not offer it. Baron does, for every order, at no extra charge.

Who This Suit Is For

The Man Who Has Written Off the Double Breasted
You tried one once, or you remember them from somewhere, and the memory is unflattering. Boxy, stiff, too much jacket. What you remember is fused construction and over-padded shoulders from a different era. A canvas-front 6×2 with correct waist suppression looks nothing like that. This suit is the reason to revisit the decision.
The Man Who Wants to Be Ahead of the Room
You know the double-breasted is back. You have seen it on the street and in the publications. You want the version that holds up, not a trend piece that looks dated in two seasons, but a well-constructed 6×2 in a classic fabric that will look correct now and in ten years. This suit is that version.
The Man Who Has Never Found a Suit That Fits Both Jacket and Trouser
The double-breasted suit amplifies fit problems more than any other cut. The 6×2 front reads as wrong the moment the jacket does not sit correctly. Off-the-rack sizing makes this almost guaranteed. This suit is made to your measurements, and the free test suit process confirms every element before the final cloth is cut.
The Man Who Treats His Suits as an Investment
You have learned the difference between a suit that lasts and one that does not. Canvas front versus fused front. Horn buttons versus plastic. Hand-finished buttonholes versus machine-cut. This suit has all three. Many customers have bought it. The average is five stars and one specific note: the test suit took the anxiety out of ordering.

Questions About the Double Breasted Suit

Why does the 6×2 double breasted suit look so different from older double breasted suits?
The boxy, unflattering double-breasted suits most people remember came from a combination of heavy shoulder padding, fused construction, and a high button stance that created a wide, rigid chest. The modern 6×2 has none of those features. The button stance is lower, creating a longer V-line. The construction is canvas front rather than fused, so the jacket drapes and moves rather than holding a fixed shape. The shoulders are natural rather than padded. The waist is suppressed. The result is a suit that elongates rather than widens, and that reads as intentional and contemporary rather than dated.
What does 6×2 mean on a double breasted suit?
6×2 means six buttons arranged in two columns, with only two of them functional fastening buttons. The other four are decorative and define the visual symmetry of the front. The two fastening buttons are typically the middle pair, and the suit is designed to be worn closed at those two points. The 6×2 is the most common modern double-breasted configuration and the one that works best for most body types. A 6×1 configuration fastens at only one point and creates a different, slightly more casual silhouette.
What is a canvas front and why does it matter in a double breasted suit?
A canvas front is a layer of woven horsehair canvas hand-stitched into the chest of the jacket, between the outer fabric and the lining. It floats rather than being glued in place. Over the first months of wearing, it molds to your specific chest shape, making the jacket feel increasingly like your own body rather than a rigid structure you are wearing. In a fused jacket, the interlining is glued and holds a fixed shape regardless of your body. Fused construction often causes bubbling and separation over time, especially through dry cleaning. In a double-breasted suit, the canvas front matters more than in a single-breasted suit because the 6×2 front creates a large, unbroken surface that shows every imperfection in construction.
Does a double breasted suit work for my body type?
When built correctly, the 6×2 double-breasted suit works for a wide range of body types. The overlapping front adds visual width to the chest, making slimmer frames look more substantial. The defined peak lapels and button stance draw the eye inward and down, creating the appearance of a narrower waist. For taller men, the suit creates a proportionate silhouette. For shorter men, the leg-lengthening trouser cut and lower button stance help elongate the frame. The key is correct fit, which is why the free test suit process matters particularly for the double-breasted silhouette.
What are the 8 fabric color options?
Charcoal, Dark Grey, Light Grey, Black, Navy, Blue, Dark Brown, and Lightest Brown. Charcoal is the most versatile and the most used for the double-breasted silhouette. Black is the most formal. Navy reads as slightly more modern and works well in creative industries or business casual environments. The price is the same for all eight colors.
How does the free test suit process work?
You enter your measurements on the product page when you order. We build a complete test suit, jacket and trousers, in cotton to your measurements and ship it via trackable courier. You try it on, check the 6×2 stance, shoulder line, lapel position, and trouser break, and send us your notes. We apply every adjustment to the final pattern before cutting your Super 120s worsted wool. The test suit is yours to keep. No return required. The whole point is to remove any anxiety about ordering a double-breasted suit online, where the fit is harder to estimate than with a single-breasted jacket.
Can I add a ticket pocket or other customizations?
Yes. The free customizer on the product page lets you add a ticket pocket to the jacket, select extended lining if you have wool sensitivity, add suspender buttons to the trousers, and choose from three fit styles: slim, standard, and relaxed. All customizations are included at no extra charge.
How long does the full process take?
Allow 6 to 9 weeks from order to final suit. The test suit takes 2 to 3 weeks to build and ship. Once you confirm fit, the final suit takes 4 to 6 weeks in production. If you have a specific event or deadline, tell us when you order and we will confirm whether the timeline is workable.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. Both the test suit and your final suit ship worldwide via trackable courier. Delivery times vary by destination.
