All you need is a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Frequently asked questions about measuring yourself
How do I measure my bust, waist and length for a custom garment?
Use a flexible tape. For the bust, wrap it around the fullest part with the tape level. For the waist, measure the narrowest part, usually just above the belly button. For length, measure from the shoulder or natural waist down to your desired hem. Keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger, and measure over close-fitting clothing rather than bulky layers.
How do I measure my waist, hips, thighs and rise?
Measure the waist at the narrowest point, the hips around the widest part of your hips and seat, and the thigh around the fullest part of the upper leg. For the rise, sit down and measure from the front of your natural waist, down between your legs to the seat. Keep the tape level and snug throughout.
Where can I get my measurements taken?
Any local tailor or seamstress can take your measurements in a few minutes, and many fabric or bridal shops offer measuring too. You can also measure yourself at home with a flexible tape using this guide, or have a friend help with the back and shoulder measurements. Because we send a free test garment before cutting your final cloth, the fit is confirmed on your body regardless of who takes the first measurements.
What do I need to measure myself?
Just a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Wear close-fitting clothing so the tape sits against your body, and stand naturally with your weight even on both feet.
How tight should the measuring tape be?
Snug but not tight. The tape should sit flat against your body with just enough room to slip one finger underneath. Pulling it too tight gives measurements that are too small, and leaving it loose makes the garment baggy.
What if my measurements are not perfect?
That is exactly why we send a free test garment. Give us your best measurements, and we build a test version in a stand-in cloth to your numbers and ship it to you. You try it on, we adjust from there, and nothing is cut in your final fabric until the fit is confirmed.

A Women’s Fitted Wool Coat That Is Fitted on You, Not the Hanger
Many coats sold as fitted are fitted on the hanger. On a body, one waist dart can only take in so much, so the cloth either pulls across the hips or hangs straight past the waist. This women’s fitted wool coat uses two parallel darts at each side of the waist instead of one, so the shaping is spread out and the coat follows you without strain.

Questions About the Women’s Fitted Wool Coat
Q. What makes this a fitted coat?
A. Two parallel darts at each side of the waist share the shaping, so the coat follows the waist without pulling across the hip. One dart alone would have to take all the shaping in a single seam, which puckers at the point. That is the difference you see between a fitted coat and a coat that is simply tight.
Q. How should a fitted coat fit a woman?
A. The shoulder seam should end at the edge of your shoulder bone, and the front should button without pulling into an X across the bust. You should still be able to slide two fingers between the buttoned coat and your chest, and the sleeves should reach the base of your thumb. Those are the points we check on your test coat.
Q. How fitted is it, and can I wear a sweater under it?
A. You decide in the test coat: slim, standard or relaxed in the selector. Tell us if you want room for a thick sweater, and wear one when you try the test coat so the final coat is cut around it.
Q. Is wool flannel warm enough for winter?
A. Yes, for a tailored coat. Super 110s flannel has a brushed surface that holds warm air, and the coat is fully lined in satin, which adds a second layer. In real cold, order it longer and wear a knit underneath.
Q. Is a custom tailored coat worth it over a ready-made one?
A. A ready-made coat is cut for one waist height and one bust position, so it either fits you or it does not. This coat is cut from your measurements, with a canvas front that keeps its line for years, and the fit is checked on a cotton test coat before the wool is cut. If you keep a coat for many winters, that is where the difference shows.
Q. Can I have it longer for winter?
A. Yes. It is mid-thigh as standard; enter a longer length on the measurement form, for example to the knee. The test coat shows the new length before the flannel is cut.
Q. What colors does it come in?
A. Navy blue as in the photos, and other flannels in the selector, such as camel, burgundy, charcoal and light gray. The satin lining is chosen in the selector too.
Q. Can I change the pockets, buttons or vent?
A. Yes. Put the change in the comment box of the measurement form, or email us with your order number. Patch pockets, two buttons or no chest pocket are all possible on this coat.
Q. How do I measure if there is no tailor near me?
A. Ask someone to hold the tape if you can. On your own, measure bust, natural waist and hips, then a coat or jacket that already fits you well across the shoulders; we can guide you by video call or WhatsApp.
Q. Can I see the flannel before I order?
A. Yes. Our swatch service sends up to four samples of about 2 by 4 inches. They usually arrive within 4 to 6 business days. Quote product number 2800003 and the colors you want to compare; the courier fee is credited toward your first order.
Q. How long does the fitted coat take?
A. The cotton test coat is made in 3 to 4 weeks and arrives 5 to 10 days after dispatch. Once you approve the fit, the flannel coat is made in 3 to 4 weeks more and arrives 5 to 10 days after it ships.
Q. How do I care for it?

The doubts most women have, and why you can relax
I am worried a custom-made coat will be too tight over my jumpers.
This is the most common coat worry, and it is exactly what we plan for. A coat is cut with more ease than a jacket precisely so it closes comfortably over your layers, and when you try the free test garment we ask you to put it on over the jumper or blazer you would normally wear underneath. If it feels at all snug, we add room before the final cloth is cut, so the finished coat is never tight over your usual layers.
A coat is a big spend. What if it arrives and it is wrong?
Nothing final, and nothing costly, is cut until you have approved the fit on the free test garment. You are not gambling a large sum on a coat you have never seen on your body; you are confirming the fit on a test version first, over your layers, and only then do we cut the real cloth. That is the whole point of the process, to take the risk out of the biggest, most visible piece in your wardrobe.
I have never been able to find a coat that fits my shoulders and my shape at once.

You do not need to get it perfect. Our guide takes you through each measurement, a friend or a local tailor can help, and you measure over light clothing so we can allow for layers ourselves. The free test garment is there to catch anything that is slightly off, we see the coat on your body and adjust, so a first-try measurement is completely fine.
How do I choose the right length without seeing it on?
Tell us the look you want, cropped, mid-thigh, knee, or full-length, and we draft it to your height so the proportion suits your frame. If you are unsure, a length that ends around the mid-thigh or knee flatters most people. The test garment then lets you see the length on your body and change it before the final coat is cut, so you are never guessing.
Will a fitted coat still look shaped, or will it end up boxy to fit the layers?
It stays shaped. We build in enough room for layers while still cutting a waist and a clean line, so the coat reads as tailored, not as a box. You choose how close or relaxed you want it, and the test garment lets you confirm that balance of room and shape on your own body.
What if my size changes, or I want to wear it over heavier layers in future?
Coats carry generous seam allowances, so a local tailor can adjust the body within reason if your shape changes. And because we cut with layering in mind and keep your measurements on record, you can tell us up front if you plan to wear it over heavy knits, and we allow for it.
The whole custom process feels intimidating. What actually happens?
It is simpler than it sounds. You choose the coat, cloth, and length and send your measurements; we make a free test garment and post it to you; you try it on over your layers and send notes and photos; we adjust and then cut and hand-tailor your final coat; and it ships to you with tracking. At no point are you committing to a finished coat you have not already seen fit on your body.
