Follow these simple steps to ensure your custom garment fits you perfectly. All you need is a flexible measuring tape.
Measure across your back from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, keeping the tape flat.
Measure from the edge of your shoulder, along the outside of your relaxed arm, to your desired sleeve length.
Measure around the armhole where the sleeve joins the body. Pass the tape from the top of the shoulder, under the armpit, and back to the starting point. Keep the tape comfortably snug. Measure over a lightweight shirt or close-fitting clothing, keeping your arm relaxed at your side.
With muscles relaxed, measure around the fullest part of your upper arm. Keep the tape snug with room for one finger.
Wrap the measuring tape around your wrist bone, where a watch would sit. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Leave room for one finger between the tape and your wrist for comfort
Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the neck, over the fullest part of the bust, and straight down to your desired garment length. Continue to the desired hem for the garment you are ordering, whether it’s a shirt, jacket, blazer, coat, or full-length coat.
Measure around the base of your neck where a collar would sit, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.
Stand straight with your arms relaxed. Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and snug with room for a finger.
Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, typically above the belly button. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.
Stand with your feet together and measure around the widest part of your hips and seat. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.
Measure around your waist where you normally wear the waistband of your pants or skirts. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.
Measure around the fullest part of your upper thigh, keeping the tape snug with room for one finger.
Measure around your ankle or the width of the trouser hem on a well-fitting pair of pants (flat, across x2).
Measure from the top of your waistband down the outside of your leg to the point where you want the trouser hem to finish.
Measure from the highest point of the crotch down the inside of your leg to the same hem point used for the trouser length measurement.
Women’s Measuring Guide
All you need is a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Wear close-fitting clothing so the tape sits against your body, stand naturally with your weight even on both feet, and keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger. Below is every measurement we may ask for. You do not have to get each number perfect: we send a free test garment before cutting your final cloth, so the fit is confirmed on your body first.

Before we cut your chosen cloth, we make a test version of your garment in cotton, cut from the same pattern, and send it to you free. You try it on and tell us what to change. Only after you approve the fit do we make the final piece. The test garment is yours to keep.

Most suit dresses for women are sold as a set in one size: a jacket and a sheath dress in stretch crepe or ponte, cut for an average body. The jacket might fit; the dress rarely fits at the same time, because a sheath touches the bust, the waist, the hips and the back of the body all at once, and no size chart covers all four.
This women’s suit dress is cut in Super 120s wool flannel, both pieces made to your measurements: a two-button jacket with notch lapels and no outside pockets, over a sleeveless V-neck sheath dress. Flannel is brushed after weaving, so this wool suiting dress is soft, matte and warmer than a smooth suit cloth, and the whole outfit is tried first as a free cotton test suit.

Free Test Suit
A jacket and a dress have to agree with each other as well as with you: the jacket must close over the dress without dragging it, and the dress must sit smoothly under the jacket. That is why both pieces are made in cotton and tried together before any flannel is cut.
Fitting a Sheath
A sheath dress shows body structure more honestly than any jacket. When the bust does not follow the waist and hip measurements, or the hip is fuller at the back than at the front, a ready-made dress either pulls across the front or bunches below the seat. These are the corrections we make most often on a test dress, usually with an extra dart or a little more room where the body needs it. If the style cannot take another dart, we explain the trade-off and you choose between keeping the exact look and getting the exact fit.

The Cloths
These are close-up photos of the actual cloth. Wool flannel is woven and then brushed, which raises a soft, slightly fuzzy surface with no shine. It is warmer than worsted suiting, so this is a suit dress for autumn, winter and air-conditioned offices rather than summer heat.
