All you need is a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Wear close-fitting clothing so the tape sits against your body, stand naturally with your weight even on both feet, and keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger. Below is every measurement we may ask for. You do not have to get each number perfect: we send a free test garment before cutting your final cloth, so the fit is confirmed on your body first.

How do I measure my bust, waist and length for a custom garment?
Use a flexible tape. For the bust, wrap it around the fullest part with the tape level. For the waist, measure the narrowest part, usually just above the belly button. For length, measure from the shoulder or natural waist down to your desired hem. Keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger, and measure over close-fitting clothing rather than bulky layers.
How do I measure my waist, hips, thighs and rise?

What do I need to measure myself?

How tight should the measuring tape be?
Snug but not tight. The tape should sit flat against your body with just enough room to slip one finger underneath. Pulling it too tight gives measurements that are too small, and leaving it loose makes the garment baggy.
What if my measurements are not perfect?
That is exactly why we send a free test garment. Give us your best measurements, and we build a test version in a stand-in cloth to your numbers and ship it to you. You try it on, we adjust from there, and nothing is cut in your final fabric until the fit is confirmed.

If you have ever stood in a fitting room watching a shirt gape between the buttons, or bought one that fit your shoulders but strained across the bust, you already know why women’s shirts are so hard to get right off the rack. They are cut to an average body, and almost no one is average. A custom-made shirt removes the gamble completely: there are no standard sizes, we cut it to your measurements, and before we cut your final cloth we send you a free test garment so the fit is proven on your body first. This page is here to answer the worries that come with ordering a shirt you cannot try on in a store yet.

The doubts most women have, and why you can relax
My shirts always gape at the bust, it is embarrassing. Will this actually be different?
Yes, and it is the single most common reason women come to us. Bust gape happens because ready-to-wear is cut for an average bust-to-shoulder ratio that probably is not yours. We shape the shirt with darts and cut it to your real bust measurement, so it closes smoothly with no gap and no strain. If the free test garment shows even a hint of pull, we correct it before the final shirt is made, so you never have to send back a shirt that gapes again.
I have never ordered a shirt I could not try on first. How do I know it will fit?
Because you do try it on first. After you send your measurements, we make a free test shirt in a stand-in cotton to those numbers and post it to you. You put it on, check the bust, shoulders, and sleeves, and send us your notes and a couple of photos. Only once you are happy do we cut your final cloth, so the finished shirt is not a leap of faith, it is a fit you have already approved.
I am nervous I will measure myself wrong.
You do not have to be perfect. Our guide walks you through each measurement, a friend or a local tailor can help with the tricky ones, and if you are unsure you can simply send your best numbers. The whole point of the free test garment is to catch any small error before it matters, we see the fit on your body and adjust, so an imperfect first measurement is completely normal and nothing to worry about.
I have always struggled to find shirts that fit my shape. Is custom-made really for someone like me?
It is made for exactly you. The women who struggle most with off-the-rack, a fuller bust, broad or narrow shoulders, a long or short torso, a small waist with a fuller bust, are the ones who benefit most, because we cut to your proportions instead of forcing you into a size. There is no shape that is wrong here; there are only your measurements.
What if the shirt arrives and something still is not quite right?
That is what the test garment stage is designed to prevent, because the final shirt is cut to the exact fit you already approved. In the rare case something needs a tweak, the finished shirt is made with seam allowances so a local tailor can fine-tune it, and you can always contact us and we will help make it right.
A silk blouse worries me, I do not want it clinging or gaping.
A well-cut silk blouse should drape and skim, not cling, and that comes down to the fit through the bust and shoulders, which we tailor to you. Because silk is unforgiving of a poor fit, a custom-made shirt actually matters more here, not less, and the test garment lets you confirm the drape before we cut into the silk.
It feels like a lot to spend on a single shirt made just for me. What is my safety net?
