Follow these simple steps to ensure your custom garment fits you perfectly. All you need is a flexible measuring tape.
Measure across your back from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, keeping the tape flat.
Measure from the edge of your shoulder, along the outside of your relaxed arm, to your desired sleeve length.
Measure around the armhole where the sleeve joins the body. Pass the tape from the top of the shoulder, under the armpit, and back to the starting point. Keep the tape comfortably snug. Measure over a lightweight shirt or close-fitting clothing, keeping your arm relaxed at your side.
With muscles relaxed, measure around the fullest part of your upper arm. Keep the tape snug with room for one finger.
Wrap the measuring tape around your wrist bone, where a watch would sit. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Leave room for one finger between the tape and your wrist for comfort
Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the neck, over the fullest part of the bust, and straight down to your desired dress hem. Continue measuring to the finished length of the dress you wish to order, whether it’s a mini, knee-length, midi, maxi, or floor-length dress.
Measure around the base of your neck where a collar would sit, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.

Women’s Measuring Guide
All you need is a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Wear close-fitting clothing so the tape sits against your body, stand naturally with your weight even on both feet, and keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger. Below is every measurement we may ask for. You do not have to get each number perfect: we send a free test garment before cutting your final cloth, so the fit is confirmed on your body first.
Stand straight with your arms relaxed and wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and snug with room for one finger.
Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, usually just above the belly button, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.
Measure around the area where you normally wear your trousers or skirts, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.
Stand with your feet together and measure around the widest part of your hips and seat, keeping the tape level.
Measure around the fullest part of your upper thigh, keeping the tape snug with room for one finger.
Sit down and measure from your natural waist at the front, down between your legs to the seat, to capture the rise for trousers.

Measure from the top of your waistband down the outside of your leg to the point where you want the trouser hem to finish.

Before we cut your chosen cloth, we make a test version of your garment in cotton, cut from the same pattern, and send it to you free. You try it on and tell us what to change. Only after you approve the fit do we make the final piece. The test garment is yours to keep.

Most asymmetrical hem dresses are made in chiffon or thin polyester, because those fabrics are inexpensive and drape easily. The problem is that the angle, the whole point of the dress, droops by the end of the day, and the dress needs layers underneath to be opaque.
This asymmetrical hem zipper dress takes the opposite approach. It is cut to your measurements in Super 120s worsted wool woven as sharkskin, fully lined in satin, with a round neck and an overlapping front panel that is sewn in place and falls to an angled hem above the knee. The shape is a shift with a slight A-line flare, it closes with a hidden zip at the center back, and a free cotton test dress comes first so the angle sits where it should on you.

Free Test Dress
An asymmetric hem has a short side and a long side, and both have to suit you. On the test dress we set the length of the short side for sitting, then the drop of the diagonal, so the line looks intentional from the front and the side. We also check that the overlapping panel lies flat across the stomach; if it lifts, the bust or hip needs more room, which we add before the wool is cut.
If your fit would change the look in the photos, such as a longer short side, we explain the trade-off and you decide.

The diagonal line of the front panel moves the eye across the body, which breaks up width at the hip. It works because the wool keeps the line sharp; the same cut in a soft fabric would read as a fold rather than a design.
Sharkskin Wool
Sharkskin is a worsted wool woven with alternating light and dark yarns. Up close it shows a tiny stepped pattern; from a distance it looks like a solid color with a soft two-tone sheen that shifts in the light. It is smooth, resists creasing and holds sharp lines, which is why it is a suiting cloth.
