How tight should the measuring tape be?
Snug but not tight. The tape should sit flat against your body with just enough room to slip one finger underneath. Pulling it too tight gives measurements that are too small, and leaving it loose makes the garment baggy.

What Makes a Bootcut a Bootcut
A bootcut is slim from the hip to the knee, then opens slightly so the hem is a little wider than the knee. It was made to sit over a boot or a heel, and on a tailored trouser it balances the hips and makes the leg look longer. It is quieter than a flare.

Heels and Length
Bootcut Trousers and Heels: Getting the Length Right
A bootcut is meant to be long. The hem should cover most of the heel and sit about half an inch off the floor at the back, so the leg reads as one long line. That only works for one heel height, so tell us which shoes you will wear most.
- High heels or heeled boots: the classic bootcut length, with the hem resting over the top of the foot.
- Low heels or block heels: a little shorter, so the hem does not drag.
- Flats: possible, but a bootcut on flats can pool at the ankle. If you wear flats most days, ask for a straight leg instead.
The Wool
9 oz Super 140s Wool, Lined to the Knee
The cloth is a 9 oz Super 140s worsted wool, 100% wool, in a plain weave. It is light enough for heated offices and most of the year, and the fine yarn drapes smoothly, which is what lets the opening below the knee fall cleanly instead of standing out stiffly.
The front of each leg is lined in acetate to just below the knee, so the trousers slide over tights and the knees keep their shape. Choose the lining color in the selector above. If wool makes your skin itch, ask for the lining to run all the way to the hem, at no extra cost.

Trousers never fit my waist and my hips at the same time. Am I just an awkward shape?
You are not, ready-to-wear is the problem, not your body. Off-the-rack trousers are cut to one fixed waist-to-hip ratio, so if yours is different, either the waist gapes or the hips pull, no matter which size you buy. We cut your waist and your hip independently to your own measurements, so both fit at once, and the free test garment proves it on your body before the final pair is made. My trousers always gape at the back waist. Will this fix it?
Yes, directly. Back-gape is the classic sign of a waist cut too big relative to your hips. Because we cut the waistband to your actual waist, it sits flat against your back with no gap, even when you sit down, and you confirm exactly that on the free test garment before we cut your final cloth.
I have never bought trousers I could not try on first. How do I know they will fit?
Because you do try them on first. We make a free test pair in a stand-in cloth to your measurements and post it to you. You put them on, sit down, walk, check the waist, rise, hips, and length, and send us notes and photos. Only once you are happy do we cut your final fabric, so the finished trousers are a fit you have already approved.
I am between sizes and always end up altering everything. Will this be any different?

You do not have to be exact. Our guide walks you through each measurement, a friend or a local tailor can help, and if you are unsure you can send your best numbers. The free test garment is there to catch anything slightly off, we see the fit on your body and adjust, so a first-try measurement is completely normal.
What if they arrive and something is still not right?
The final pair is cut to the exact fit you approved on the test garment, so surprises are rare by design. If a small tweak is ever needed, the finished trousers carry seam allowances at the waist and seat so a local tailor can fine-tune them, and you can always contact us and we will help make it right.
It feels like a lot for a pair of trousers made just for me. What is my safety net?
Nothing final is cut until you have approved the fit on the free test garment, so you are not gambling on a pair you have never seen on your body. And trousers that finally fit your waist and hips get worn constantly, so they tend to cost far less per wear than the ill-fitting pairs that never leave the wardrobe.
What if my weight changes later?
