Follow these simple steps to ensure your custom garment fits you perfectly. All you need is a flexible measuring tape.
Measure across your back from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, keeping the tape flat.
Measure from the edge of your shoulder, along the outside of your relaxed arm, to your desired sleeve length.
Measure around the armhole where the sleeve joins the body. Pass the tape from the top of the shoulder, under the armpit, and back to the starting point. Keep the tape comfortably snug. Measure over a lightweight shirt or close-fitting clothing, keeping your arm relaxed at your side.
With muscles relaxed, measure around the fullest part of your upper arm. Keep the tape snug with room for one finger.
Wrap the measuring tape around your wrist bone, where a watch would sit. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Leave room for one finger between the tape and your wrist for comfort
Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the neck, over the fullest part of the bust, and straight down to your desired garment length. Continue to the desired hem for the garment you are ordering, whether it’s a shirt, jacket, blazer, coat, or full-length coat.
Measure around the base of your neck where a collar would sit, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.
Stand straight with your arms relaxed. Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and snug with room for a finger.
Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, typically above the belly button. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.
Stand with your feet together and measure around the widest part of your hips and seat. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.
Measure around your waist where you normally wear the waistband of your pants or skirts. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.
Measure around the fullest part of your upper thigh, keeping the tape snug with room for one finger.
Measure around your ankle or the width of the trouser hem on a well-fitting pair of pants (flat, across x2).
Measure from the top of your waistband down the outside of your leg to the point where you want the trouser hem to finish.
Measure from the highest point of the crotch down the inside of your leg to the same hem point used for the trouser length measurement.
Women’s Measuring Guide
All you need is a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Wear close-fitting clothing so the tape sits against your body, stand naturally with your weight even on both feet, and keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger. Below is every measurement we may ask for. You do not have to get each number perfect: we send a free test garment before cutting your final cloth, so the fit is confirmed on your body first.
Stand straight with your arms relaxed and wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and snug with room for one finger.
Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, usually just above the belly button, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.
Measure around the area where you normally wear your trousers or skirts, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.

The Suit
Almost all the fresco wool suits you will find online are cut for men, and the few made for women are sold in standard sizes. Fresco is worth looking for: the yarns are twisted hard and woven open, so the cloth breathes, feels crisp and shakes off creases from sitting, commuting or a long flight.

Free Test Suit
A slim, tapered trouser is the hardest part of a women’s suit to fit from a size chart. When the hip is smaller than the chart expects, cloth gathers in folds below the seat; when the hip is fuller at the back with a flatter front, the trousers pull at the back and stand away in front. On the test suit we take out or add room exactly where your body needs it, and on the jacket we keep the single button where the front lies flat over the bust.
Sometimes the cleanest fix would change the look, such as an extra dart in the jacket front. We explain the trade-off, and you choose between the fit that follows your body exactly and the style in the photos exactly.
Fresco vs Tropical

If you want the smoother of the two, see our women’s tropical wool pantsuit. In our experience, cheaper suits give out in two ways: the cloth fades or roughens in the weather, and the construction lets the shoulders and front slip out of shape. A firm fresco on a canvas front avoids both.
