## Women’s Trouser Fit Guide

A well-fitting trouser defines how a garment moves with you and frames your lower silhouette. Your test garment will reflect how fitted or relaxed the trousers feel at the waist, hips, and legs. Use this guide to select the cut that best suits your body and styling needs.

---

## Slim Fit

Tapered and close-fitting through the hips, thighs, and legs. Designed to contour the lower body without excess fabric.

**Best for:** A lean build or anyone who prefers a sleek, streamlined silhouette with a modern edge.

---

## Standard Fit

Balanced proportions through the waist, hips, and legs. Offers gentle shaping without being tight, for a classic, all-purpose look.

**Best for:** An average build or those seeking versatile trousers that combine structure with ease of movement.

---

## Relaxed Fit

Loosely tailored with extra room throughout the hips, thighs, and leg opening for maximum comfort.

**Best for:** Those who prioritize ease, freedom of movement, or need a more forgiving fit around the midsection and hips.

Women’s Trouser Fit Guide

## How Women’s Trousers Should Fit

Trousers are where ready-to-wear forces the biggest compromise: a waist that fits means hips that pull, or hips that fit means a gaping waistband. Custom-made trousers remove that trade-off entirely. You choose the leg shape and the fit, we cut the waist, hips, rise, and length to your measurements, and a free test garment confirms it on you before your final cloth is cut. This guide covers the leg shapes, the fits, and where trousers should sit.

---

Step One

## Choose your leg shape

Slim / Tapered

Fitted through the thigh and narrowing to the ankle, for a sleek, modern line that works cropped or full length.

Straight

A clean, even line from hip to hem, the most classic and versatile shape, flattering on almost everyone.

Bootcut / Flared

Fitted through the thigh then opening below the knee, which balances the hips and elongates the leg, especially with a heel.

Wide-leg / Relaxed

Roomy and fluid from the hip down, for an easy, contemporary silhouette with plenty of movement.

---

Step Two

## The fit checkpoints

Waist

The waistband sits comfortably at your chosen height, snug without digging in, with no gap at the back when you sit. Because it is cut to your waist, you avoid the usual back-gape or muffin pinch.

Hips & thigh

The trousers skim your hips and thigh cleanly, with no pulling or horizontal strain lines. This is exactly where off-the-rack fails and custom-made tailoring wins, because the hip is cut independently of the waist.

Rise

The rise, how high the trouser sits from crotch to waistband, is cut to you, so a high-rise sits at the natural waist without pulling and a mid-rise sits just below. Tell us your preference.

Length & break

You choose the length: a full break resting on the shoe, a light break with a single soft fold, or a clean cropped ankle. Every hem is cut to your leg and your shoe height.

Every pair is made to your measurements, in the leg shape and fit you choose, with the waist, hip, and rise cut independently for a true fit. A free test garment confirms it before your final cloth is cut, and it is yours to keep.

Your Worries, Answered

## The doubts most women have, and why you can relax

### Trousers never fit my waist and my hips at the same time. Am I just an awkward shape?

You are not, ready-to-wear is the problem, not your body. Off-the-rack trousers are cut to one fixed waist-to-hip ratio, so if yours is different, either the waist gapes or the hips pull, no matter which size you buy. We cut your waist and your hip independently to your own measurements, so both fit at once, and the free test garment proves it on your body before the final pair is made. A great many of our customers have spent years thinking they were the problem; they were not.

### My trousers always gape at the back waist. Will this fix it?

Yes, directly. Back-gape is the classic sign of a waist cut too big relative to your hips. Because we cut the waistband to your actual waist, it sits flat against your back with no gap, even when you sit down, and you confirm exactly that on the free test garment before we cut your final cloth.

### I have never bought trousers I could not try on first. How do I know they will fit?

Because you do try them on first. We make a free test pair in a stand-in cloth to your measurements and post it to you. You put them on, sit down, walk, check the waist, rise, hips, and length, and send us notes and photos. Only once you are happy do we cut your final fabric, so the finished trousers are a fit you have already approved.

### I am between sizes and always end up altering everything. Will this be any different?

Completely, because there are no sizes to fall between. You send your measurements, we cut to them exactly, and the free test garment confirms the fit, so you receive trousers that are already right rather than a compromise you have to pay a tailor to fix afterwards.

### I am nervous I will measure the waist, hips, or rise wrong.

You do not have to be exact. Our guide walks you through each measurement, a friend or a local tailor can help, and if you are unsure you can send your best numbers. The free test garment is there to catch anything slightly off, we see the fit on your body and adjust, so a first-try measurement is completely normal.

### What if they arrive and something is still not right?

The final pair is cut to the exact fit you approved on the test garment, so surprises are rare by design. If a small tweak is ever needed, the finished trousers carry seam allowances at the waist and seat so a local tailor can fine-tune them, and you can always contact us and we will help make it right.

### It feels like a lot for a pair of trousers made just for me. What is my safety net?

Nothing final is cut until you have approved the fit on the free test garment, so you are not gambling on a pair you have never seen on your body. And trousers that finally fit your waist and hips get worn constantly, so they tend to cost far less per wear than the ill-fitting pairs that never leave the wardrobe.

### What if my weight changes later?

Your finished trousers are made with seam allowances, so a local tailor can take them in or let them out at the waist and seat within reason if your shape shifts. And we keep your measurements on record, so ordering another pair that fits is simple whenever you want one.

**Chosen your fit?** Browse [women’s pants](/womenswear/pants-for-women/), or [message us](/contact-baron/) with any questions. We build the free test garment first to confirm the fit on your body, and it is yours to keep.
