# Women’s Body Measuring Guide

Step-by-step guide on how to measure women accurately. Learn to measure your bust, waist, hips, & more with clear images & easy instructions.

## Women’s Measuring Guide

Follow these simple steps to ensure your custom garment fits you perfectly. All you need is a flexible measuring tape.

**You do not have to get this perfect.** Send us your best measurements and we craft a free test garment to your numbers first, so the fit is confirmed on your body before we cut your final cloth. Every piece is custom made to your measurements, and the test garment is yours to keep.

### How to Measure Your Shoulder Width

Measure across your back from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, keeping the tape flat.

### How to Measure Your Desired Sleeve length

Measure from the edge of your shoulder, along the outside of your relaxed arm, to your desired sleeve length.

### How to Measure Your Body Armhole

Measure around the armhole where the sleeve joins the body. Pass the tape from the top of the shoulder, under the armpit, and back to the starting point. Keep the tape comfortably snug. Measure over a lightweight shirt or close-fitting clothing, keeping your arm relaxed at your side.

### How to Measure Your Bicep (Upper Arm) Circumference

With muscles relaxed, measure around the fullest part of your upper arm. Keep the tape snug with room for one finger.

### How to Measure Your Wrist Circumference

Wrap the measuring tape around your wrist bone, where a watch would sit. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Leave room for one finger between the tape and your wrist for comfort

### How to Measure Your Desired Garment Length

Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the neck, over the fullest part of the bust, and straight down to your desired garment length. Continue to the desired hem for the garment you are ordering, whether it’s a shirt, jacket, blazer, coat, or full-length coat.

### How to Measure Your Neck Circumference

Measure around the base of your neck where a collar would sit, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.

### How to Measure Your Bust Circumference

Stand straight with your arms relaxed. Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and snug with room for a finger.

### How to Measure Your Natural Waist

Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, typically above the belly button. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.

### How to Measure Your Hips

Stand with your feet together and measure around the widest part of your hips and seat. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.

### How to Measure Your Waistband (Waist)

Measure around your waist where you normally wear the waistband of your pants or skirts. Keep the tape level with room for one finger.

### How to Measure Your Thigh Circumference

Measure around the fullest part of your upper thigh, keeping the tape snug with room for one finger.

### How to Measure Your Trouser Leg Opening – Hem Width

Measure around your ankle or the width of the trouser hem on a well-fitting pair of pants (flat, across x2).

### How to Measure Your Desired Trouser Length

Measure from the top of your waistband down the outside of your leg to the point where you want the trouser hem to finish.

### How to Measure Your Desired Trouser Inseam

Measure from the highest point of the crotch down the inside of your leg to **the same hem point used for the trouser length measurement.**

## How to Take Your Own Measurements for a Perfect Fit

All you need is a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Wear close-fitting clothing so the tape sits against your body, stand naturally with your weight even on both feet, and keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger. Below is every measurement we may ask for. You do not have to get each number perfect: we send a free test garment before cutting your final cloth, so the fit is confirmed on your body first.

1

### Bust circumference

Stand straight with your arms relaxed and wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and snug with room for one finger.

2

### Natural waist

Measure around the narrowest part of your waist, usually just above the belly button, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.

3

### Waist (trouser or skirt)

Measure around the area where you normally wear your trousers or skirts, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.

4

### Hips and seat

Stand with your feet together and measure around the widest part of your hips and seat, keeping the tape level.

5

### Thigh circumference

Measure around the fullest part of your upper thigh, keeping the tape snug with room for one finger.

6

### Front rise

Sit down and measure from your natural waist at the front, down between your legs to the seat, to capture the rise for trousers.

7

### Inseam

Measure from the highest point of the crotch down the inside of your leg to the same hem point used for the trouser length measurement.

8

### Outseam and trouser length

Measure from the top of your waistband down the outside of your leg to the point where you want the trouser hem to finish.

9

### Shoulder width

Measure across your back from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, keeping the tape flat.

10

### Sleeve or arm length

Measure from the edge of your shoulder, along the outside of your relaxed arm, to your desired sleeve length.

11

### Bicep (upper arm)

With your muscles relaxed, measure around the fullest part of your upper arm, keeping the tape snug with room for one finger.

12

### Neck circumference

Measure around the base of your neck where a collar would sit, keeping the tape level with room for one finger.

13

### Jacket or back length

Measure from the base of your neck down the center back to where you want the jacket to end.

14

### Dress or skirt length

Measure from your natural waist for a skirt, or from the shoulder for a dress, down to your desired hem.

Every garment is made to your measurements with no standard sizing, and a free test garment confirms the fit on your body before we cut your final cloth. Bust, waist, hips, thighs, rise, inseam, shoulders, sleeve, and length, all cut to you.

Questions & Answers

## Frequently asked questions about measuring yourself

### How do I measure my bust, waist and length for a custom garment?

Use a flexible tape. For the bust, wrap it around the fullest part with the tape level. For the waist, measure the narrowest part, usually just above the belly button. For length, measure from the shoulder or natural waist down to your desired hem. Keep the tape level and snug with room for one finger, and measure over close-fitting clothing rather than bulky layers.

### How do I measure my waist, hips, thighs and rise?

Measure the waist at the narrowest point, the hips around the widest part of your hips and seat, and the thigh around the fullest part of the upper leg. For the rise, sit down and measure from the front of your natural waist, down between your legs to the seat. Keep the tape level and snug throughout.

### Where can I get my measurements taken?

Any local tailor or seamstress can take your measurements in a few minutes, and many fabric or bridal shops offer measuring too. You can also measure yourself at home with a flexible tape using this guide, or have a friend help with the back and shoulder measurements. Because we send a free test garment before cutting your final cloth, the fit is confirmed on your body regardless of who takes the first measurements.

### What do I need to measure myself?

Just a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with the shoulder and back measurements. Wear close-fitting clothing so the tape sits against your body, and stand naturally with your weight even on both feet.

### How tight should the measuring tape be?

Snug but not tight. The tape should sit flat against your body with just enough room to slip one finger underneath. Pulling it too tight gives measurements that are too small, and leaving it loose makes the garment baggy.

### What if my measurements are not perfect?

That is exactly why we send a free test garment. Give us your best measurements, and we build a test version in a stand-in cloth to your numbers and ship it to you. You try it on, we adjust from there, and nothing is cut in your final fabric until the fit is confirmed.

Measurements are entered during checkout. A comment box is available for special tailoring instructions.
