# Shirt Fit Guide

Find your perfect shirt fit—Slim, Standard, Relaxed, or Athletic. Baron Boutique's guide helps you choose the best custom garment for you.

**Already know your fit?** Browse [men’s shirts](/menswear/shirts/) or [message us](/contact-baron/). Every piece is custom made to your measurements, with a free test garment first.

## Shirt Fit Guide

A shirt’s fit affects comfort, range of motion, and how cleanly it layers under jackets or stands on its own. Your test garment will reflect how close or relaxed the shirt feels on your body. Choose the silhouette that best complements your frame and styling preference.

---

## Slim Fit

Tailored and tapered through the body and sleeves.

**Best for:** A lean or athletic build. Designed for a modern, close-to-the-body shape that tucks cleanly under jackets without bulk.

---

## Standard Fit

Balanced room for comfort and structure.

**Best for:** Most body types and general wear. This is the go-to fit for everyday versatility — neither too slim nor too loose.

---

## Relaxed Fit

Maximum ease of movement and airflow.

**Best for:** Those who prefer a looser drape or require extra room in the midsection and sleeves. Ideal for warmer climates or casual styling.

---

## Athletic Fit

V-shaped design to follow your build.

**Best for:** Men with broader chests and shoulders who need space up top and taper through the waist — this cut avoids excess fabric while preserving mobility.

Men’s Shirt Fit Guide

## How a Men’s Shirt Should Fit

A shirt is the layer closest to you, worn the most and noticed up close, so small fit problems show fast: a collar that chokes or gaps, a body that billows out at the waist, a cuff that swallows your hand. A shirt made to your measurements fixes all of it at once. You choose the fit and the collar, we cut the neck, shoulders, chest, and sleeve to your body, and a free test garment confirms it on you before your final cloth is cut.

A shirt that fits properly is one you live in and keep returning to, not one you settle for. This guide covers the fits, the collar choices, and the points to check so yours feels right the first time you button it and stays that way for years.

---

Step One

## Choose your fit

Slim

Tapered close through the chest and waist for a clean, modern line with no excess fabric. Best if you like a shirt that follows the body.

Standard

Shaped but comfortable, with a little ease through the body for easy movement and all-day wear. The most versatile fit and the one most men are happiest in.

Relaxed

Generous through the chest and waist for maximum comfort and an easy drape. Ideal for a fuller frame or a softer, casual look worn tucked or loose.

Athletic

Cut for a built frame, with extra room through the chest and shoulders and a tapered waist, so a muscular build fills the shirt without pulling at the buttons or billowing when tucked.

---

Step Two

## The fit checkpoints

Collar

Buttoned, the collar sits close without choking, with room for one finger. It should not gap in front or ride up the neck. This is the detail people see first, so we cut it to your exact neck.

Shoulders

The shoulder seam sits right where your shoulder ends, not drooping onto the arm or pulling across the back, so the shirt moves with you rather than against you.

Chest & body

The shirt skims the chest and torso cleanly, with no pulling at the buttons and no billowing at the waist when tucked. Cut to you, it stays neat whether you leave it in or out.

Sleeve & cuff

The sleeve ends at the base of the thumb so the cuff sits at your wrist, and the cuff is snug enough to stay put without a watch, so it does not slide over your hand.

Every shirt is made to your measurements with no standard sizing, in the fit and collar you choose. A free test garment confirms the collar, shoulders, chest, and sleeve on your body before your final cloth is cut, and it is yours to keep.

Your Worries, Answered

## The doubts most men have, and why you can relax

### My collar always either chokes me or gaps. Will a custom shirt really fix that?

Yes, directly. Collar problems come from a neck measurement cut to a fixed size rather than yours. We cut the collar to your exact neck with the right ease, so it sits close but comfortable, and you confirm exactly that on the free test garment before your final cloth is cut.

### Shirts always billow around my waist when I tuck them in. Can you fix that?

That is the classic sign of a shirt cut too full for your body. Because we shape the chest and waist to your measurements, the shirt stays clean when tucked, with no balloon of fabric, and you see exactly that on the test garment before we make the final one.

### I have never bought a shirt I could not try on first. How do I know it will fit?

Because you do try it on first. We make a free test garment in a stand-in cloth to your measurements and post it to you. You button it, check the collar, shoulders, chest, and sleeve, and send us your notes and photos. Only once you are happy do we cut your final cloth, so the finished shirt is a fit you have already approved.

### I am nervous I will measure myself wrong.

You do not have to be perfect. Our guide walks you through each measurement, a friend or a local tailor can help, and if you are unsure you can send your best numbers. The free test garment catches anything slightly off, we see the fit on your body and adjust, so a first-try measurement is completely normal.

### A custom shirt costs more than a high-street one. Is it worth it?

A shirt that fits at the collar, chest, and cuff is one you wear constantly and feel good in every time, so it earns its keep far faster than a drawer of shirts that never sit right. Nothing final is cut until you approve the fit, and a shirt made well in quality cloth holds its shape and stays sharp wash after wash for years.

### Will I still be happy with it in a few years?

That is the idea. We cut a clean, timeless shape rather than a trend, in good cloth that softens and wears well over time. Most men find a properly fitted shirt becomes a favourite they reach for again and again, and it still feels right long after, because it was made for you, not for an average.

### What if my weight or neck size changes later?

We keep your measurements on record, so ordering another shirt that fits your new numbers is simple whenever you need it, and small changes can often be eased by a local tailor. Your fit is never locked to a size on a label.

**Chosen your fit?** Browse [men’s shirts](/menswear/shirts/), or [message us](/contact-baron/) with any questions. We build the free test garment first to confirm the fit on your body, and it is yours to keep.
